Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys - ALMOST TOGETHER AGAIN

Submitted for the RPM Challenge 2021 - rpmchallenge.com

All music by WALTER SICKERT & the ARMY of BROKEN TOYS

ALMOST TOGETHER AGAIN - was written and recorded in the 28 days of February for the RPM Challenge.

The songs were created with stream-of-consciousness and improvisational one-take recordings then mutated in the WIREFOREST mind-grapes of composer/band leader Walter Alice Sickert.

16 Years of RPM and Counting

A note from Edrie:

The first RPM challenge started what would become the artistic direction that we’ve now spent 16 years traveling.

Walter and I met during the time of the 1st RPM challenge
February has always been a time of renewal and change for us. Our daughter Wednesday, now 6, was born in February. We’ve premiered plays, moved houses, been on tour, witnessed weddings, mourned losses; And yet, we’ve released an album every February every year of the challenge.

No matter what February has brought – we’ve made time to make music

Last year, the world was just hearing the beginnings of what will likely define the lived-experience for all of humanity for a generation. Our way of being in the world, of creating, of supporting ourselves, of fellowship changed drastically this year. No more live in-person shows, the lifeblood of our very visual, very present band was tourniqueted.

We still made music.

No more getting together in the same physical space to create.

We still made music.

No more hugs or high-fives or smoke-circles or bodies packed together exuding energy.

We still made music.

We’ve lost and gained so much this year. Our Daughter Wednesday turned 6. The year of remote school and near complete isolation from other humans has changed her, changed all of us. She is still funny, kind, smart, sassy, but she is also wise in ways that are both wonderful and heartbreaking. We lost so many folks so dear to us this year including a good friend, to whom this this album is dedicated. Martha, you will forever be a part of this family and our music. We gained time as a family, time to be together to reflect. We lost time, with our friends, time performing our art in person.

Walter started BUNKER BUDS, a daily dystopian talk show dedicated to bringing joy in to the often bleak loneliness of quarantine. They have touched thousands of folks with hundreds of episodes dedicated to helping people see the good and the light of artistic fellowship.

Let Yourself Love Yourself.

ALMOST TOGETHER AGAIN is our 16th RPM offering. It’s a marker in time, a symbol of what we lost and also what we’ve gained. It points to our North Star, the time when we will all be together again, somewhere between starshine and clay. The band couldn’t physically be together for this recording. We each did our parts in our own isolation and Walter brought them together in our tiny home studio high atop WitchCastle mixing everything themselves.

ALMOST TOGETHER AGAIN is dedicated to the last 16 years of RPMs and to the people, places, and things that have made us who we are today.

Thank you RPM! Thank you for the space to create and for the reminder that no matter what obstacles the world tossed in our way, we made music.

Love & Tentacles,

Edrie, Walter, Wednesday & the rest of the Broken Toys
